This page contains pictures of the 7ft marine aquairum that has been built from a paper plan to a marine aquarium success after years of keeping marine fish and corals my dream tank is completed.
I will update this page with more photos as I get time.
Above shows the diagram that was used for designing the glass aquarium.
Research about the glass and water weight ended up finding that the feet or leveling tank was much more complicated than I first thought. Above shows the style of aquarium frame feet I purchased.
The frame in place and the large sump fits like a glove.
The tank was assembled at Angel Aquatics in Selly Oak by Dave. The sheer size and weight of the glass made this job a big one. The tank holes were drilled and these had to
Tank in place all leveled ready for filling. Scary to think that if something is wrong this is a large volume of water to remove fast.
If you look above you can see the starting point for the spray bar which is the return to tank via a central heating pump that takes water via the weir on the left.
Water was now filled via RO unit running booster pump and heavily modified setup making the RO unit work at the maximum. The RO unit is the loft and I have created a complete water preperation setup in the loft with 400 litres of Water Containers and due to being in the loft the RO Unit functions really well with the gravity effect helping take the water to the tank very fast indeed. Float valves are fitted in the loft and in the tank to prevent issues and water detection alarms are installed in place ready for an issue to detect the smallest of leaks.
Spray bar fitted in a loop and egg crate placed over the spray bar ready for rock. It is not clear but the around the complete footing of the egg crate there is plastic retainer to prevent the sand going under the egg crate to ensure maximum flow around the base of the rock when in place.
The tank has been cycled for 1 weeks with no issues, so now time to add salt, and then add more salt and more salt. The amount of salt I used in the initial shocked me. I used Deltec H2 Ocean Natural Reef Salt from Deltec and this took nearly 4 x 23KG buckets.
For a reef aquarium I use an S.G: of 1.025 @ 25°C = 35.5 ppt.
I left this for a few days and then prepared to move everything from my current Juwel Trigon 350. Above shows the first photo of the rock moved.
